This course provides opportunities for the practical application of specific barbering customer services for which the student has received previous training. Work is performed under the direct supervision of a licensed instructor. Emphasis is placed on the development of proficiency of client services. Advanced Barbering  
Students receive advanced training to increase proficiency in all areas of customer service as it relates to barbering. Although trainees perform all work under direct supervision of a licensed and experienced instructor, they are much less dependent upon instructors in carrying out assignments Students will refine and further develop specific skills and techniques previously learned to enhance hair shaping, hair coloring, make-up, long hair, razor shaving and creative graphic design on live models. Oral presentations as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course.
Grade of C or better in COSMET 101, 102, 103, 104, BARBER 107 (Barber Salon Technology I), and BARBER 108 (Barber Salon Technology II) or concurrent enrollment in BARBER 108 (Barber Salon Technology II)

Barbering Summative Seminar  
This course provides the opportunity for practical application of all previously acquired barbering knowledge and skills. Trainees perform all work under direct supervision of a licensed instructor and are much less dependent upon instructors in carrying out assignments. Considerable emphasis is placed on efficiency and quality of work performed while servicing clients. Finalizing of the portfolio is required for this course. Preparation and review for the Illinois State barbering exam will be provided. Internships as appropriate to the discipline may be part of the course.
Grade of C or better in COSMET 101,102,103,104, BARBER 107,108,203 or concurrent enrollment in BARBER 108 and BARBER 203.

Post-Graduate Barber Ed Training I  
In alignment with the Illinois Department of Financial & Professional Regulation requirements, the 1000-hour Barber Teacher Training Program requires 500 hours of post-graduate Barber training. This course completes the first 250 of those hours. This covers subjects in the basic Barber curriculum, such as proper techniques in haircutting, clipper and razor cutting, skin care, and massage, including theory and practice. Presentation of material includes the concepts that are intended to be taught and the skills to be acquired during the various phases of basic education. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course.
Not recommended for 500-hour program. Prerequisites are high school diploma or GED; and an active State of Illinois Barber License; and a grade of C or better or concurrent enrollment BARBER 223; or concurrent enrollment in BARBER 214.

Post-Graduate Barber Ed Training II

It prepares the student teacher to present theoretical and practical demonstrations to students in the basic Barber curriculum. These demonstrations include the use of educational materials used in the classroom, use of technology in the classroom; and teaching techniques and technical skills in hair-cutting procedures, using chemicals, using the clipper and the razor, procedures for analyzing the skin, care of the skin using massage and the skin care machine, and the development of hair styling techniques. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course.
Not recommended for 500-hour program. Prerequisites are high school diploma or GED; and an active State of Illinois Barber License; and a grade of C or better in BARBER 223 and BARBER 213; and A grade of C or better or concurrent enrollment BARBER 224.

Basic Teaching Skills for Barber Education Instructors  
Topics in this course cover educational objectives, student characteristics and development, the learning process and evaluation of learning, classroom management & lesson planning, assessment of learner performance, student motivation, and classroom development. Preparation and organization of subject matter of presentations include teaching objectives to be accomplished and correlate theoretical and practical applications. Salon Business basics are included, as well as applicable Illinois statutes and professional regulations. Writing assignments, as appropriate to the discipline, are part of the course.
Barber Teacher Training 500-hr: HS diploma/GED, active IL Barber License, 3+ yrs salon experience. 1000-hr: HS diploma/GED, active IL Barber License, and completion or concurrent enrollment in BARBER 213.
