This course introduces the field of Women’s and Gender Studies as a dynamic, interdisciplinary and transnational project. Students will examine the particularity of various women’s lives and their different histories and social locations; how women (and men) make sense of these specificities and harness them to alter their daily lives and fight multiple hierarchies of oppression. In the process of doing this, it will become clear how these different experiences are always connected albeit in different ways to systemic forces like colonialism, capitalism, nationalism, patriarchy, which structure many women’s (and men’s) experiences globally.
